Tell Congress: Protect Consumers and Hold the Big Wall Street Banks Accountable!
Call Senator Jack Reed Toll Free TODAY at 1-866-544-7573.
Tell Senator Reed to support financial reform that holds big Wall Street Banks accountable.
Historic health reform has passed! The bill is a victory for the American people:
- Insurance companies can no longer deny care for pre-existing conditions, charge you more if you’re sick, cap your benefits, sell you junk insurance, or raise rates with impunity.
- For the first time, Members of Congress will get their health insurance from the same system regular Americans do.
- Small business and working families will security and stability knowing they can afford good health insurance that meets their needs.
- 32 million uninsured Americans will get affordable coverage, saving over 30,000 lives per year.

A Broken System
Rhode Islanders' Health Care Stories

Working Hard but Uninsured - Carol's Health Care Story
I get really frustrated when talking about health care because not only do I have no time to look for coverage, but even if I did, it's just too expensive. I go to school full time at Rhode Island College where I'm finishing my masters in social work. Plus I work 30 hours on weekends and have an internship where I work at least another 20 hours a week. I have no coverage, nothing, because it's too expensive to get insurance through school, and I'm just squeaking by as it is, between paying rent, bills, my cell phone, gas, and car maintenance.

Care for the Elderly - Patricia and her Mother's Story
I just had an experience with my elderly mother. She has a super bug urinary tract infection and needed IV antibiotics. She was treated for a couple of days in the hospital to make sure she wasn't allergic to the antibiotic since she is allergic to penicillin. The next step was either placing her in a nursing home for three weeks while she got the IV antibiotic or allowing her to go back to the assisted living with a visiting nurse who could administer the medication.

A Doctor and Small Business Owner, But Not Immune to our Broken System-
Doctor Eric Buchbaum's Health Care Story
I'm a podiatrist in private practice, and as a physician and business owner with 6 employees, I constantly see the problems that the current health care system is causing for patients, small business owners, their employees, and physicians. After 11 years of school and training, I wish I could devote more of my time and energy to dealing with the health of my patients, and less time maneuvering through the red tape of the insurance industry.
